Yellow Toadflax
Linaria vulgaris

Sometimes called butter and eggs, this plant reaches 1 to 2' tall, reproducing by seed and underground rootstocks.  Leaves are pale green, numerous, narrow, pointed at both ends, 2 1/2 inches or more long.  Flowers are 1 inch long with a bearded, orange throat and spur-like appendages.  Fruit is round, 1/4 inch in diameter, brown, 2-celled, with many seeds.  Seeds are dark brown to black, 1/12 inch diameter, flattened with a papery circular wing.

It is found in rangelands, roadsides, waste places, and cultivated fields.  An extensive root system makes this plant difficult to control.
