Which Bti larvicide to purchase?

Bacillus Thuringiensis, subspecies israelensis

VectoBac® G is a biological larvicide granulated for use against mosquito larvae in the following mosquito habitats: Irrigation ditches, roadside ditches, flood water pools, standing ponds, snow melt pools, pastures, catch basins, storm water retention areas.

This larvicide comes in a 40-pound bag and should not be repackaged. When stored in a cool, dry place the product has a shelf life of approximately 5 years. Application rates vary from 2½ pounds per acre (7 or 8 granules per square foot) to 5 pounds per acre depending on the breeding habitat. Granules should be applied along the fringes of pools or creeks where the water is still, over marshy areas, and in low lying areas that retain water. Re-application may be required every 7 to 10 days from the onset of mosquito season through mid-September when cooler temperatures cause the mosquitoes to hibernate. A single 40-pound bag should be sufficient for one season of larvicide application along a 660-feet stretch of creek.

B.T.I. Briquets® are floating “dunkers”, sustained-release, Biological Larvicide suitable for use in horse troughs, stock tanks, or stagnant ponds. A single briquet provides effective mosquito control for 100 square feet of water for approximately 21 days. Although the product poses no risk to wildlife, some animals steal the “dunkers”, so be vigilant.
